Scholarships
Homer Kachemak Bay Rotary Club has announced a $2,000 scholarship for a Homer High School 2008 graduating senior. Obtain applications from the HHS counselor's office. Applications must be postmarked by today.
Homer American Legion has three $500 each scholarships available for B/C average graduating high school students in the Homer greater area including Seldovia, who are planning to attend a college or voc-tech school. Do not need to be a member of the American Legion to apply. Deadline is today. Applications are available at HHS, Kachemak Bay Campus, the Homer Public Library, American Legion Post 16 in Homer. For information, call 235-8864.
Icicle Seafoods Inc. of Homer will grant three $500 scholarships to help defray the cost of a first year of schooling to any graduating student from Ninilchik, Anchor Point, Seldovia and Homer. Interested students need to submit a cover letter and resume, with references to their school counselors. Applicants do not have to be "A" or "B" students to be considered. Applications must be submitted to school counselors by May 9. Personal interviews will be conducted; applicants will be notified of the date and place of interview.
The International Pacific Halibut Commission funds several merit scholarships in support of university and technical college education. Generally, a single $2,000 scholarship per year is awarded and is renewable annually for a four-year period of an undergraduate education, subject to maintenance of satisfactory academic performance.
