Fiesta, Cinco De Mayo is Friday. Cinco De Mayo (Spanish for “Fifth of May”) is a national holiday in Mexico commemorating the Mexican Army’s defeat of French forces on May 5, 1862, in the Battle of Puebla.
Mother’s Day is May 14. Don’t forget to get those cards early, before they are all gone.
Anchor Point Chamber of Commerce
The luncheon meeting guest speaker on May 10 will be Sue Brooks from South Peninsula Hospital. May 13 is community cleanup day. Let’s get those ditches clean. Hope to see a strong community turnout. Reminder: The bridge on the Old Sterling by the park will be closed May 8-18.
Anchor Point Senior Center
Tonight’s dinner will be chicken enchiladas. Dinner is served at 5:30 p.m. Cost for members is $5; nonmembers, $7.
CERT
The Community Emergency Response Team practice is today at 10 a.m. Set up will be at 9 a.m. This is a communitywide CERT drill. All CERT members are encouraged to attend. (There’s a surprise gift in it for you.) Graduation for the newest CERT members will follow. Please bring a finger food and mingle awhile.

The Cinco De Mayo chili cook-off is Friday. There will be a $5 entry fee and prizes given away for the top chili makers. Please have your chili at the V by 7 p.m. Judging will be at 7:30 p.m. Don’t be shy; go ahead and add that chili powder.
Steak night is Saturday from 6-8 p.m. Karaoke with Tom will follow dinner.
Community News
There is a fund-raiser potluck for Glennie Wells at 5 p.m. May 13 at Chapman School. There will be an auction, a dessert auction and live music. A benefit account has been set up at Alaska USA Credit Union to help Glennie.
