For the next 10 days Barb Way and Sherry Bess continued the search. Everyone (shop keepers, dog trainers, veterinarians, etc.) offered encouragement and allowed us to post signs in over 40 locations around Homer. Barb and Sherry graciously responded to calls from concerned locals who spotted Buddy in various areas, but injured and afraid, he wouldn't come to anyone. Barb even hiked up Diamond Canyon based on a Buddy sighting. Sherry also followed numerous leads hoping for an opportunity to find the lost pup.
On the 11th day Ralph Stover went to his woodshop on the Sterling Highway and there was Buddy curled up in the sawdust. He had heard about the lost pup and made a phone call to Sherry who was able to safely capture Buddy and take him to the animal shelter. We had a happy reunion with our pet and though he was 12 pounds lighter and sporting some abrasions he is happy to be back with his pack.
We all appreciate a story with a happy ending but more importantly this story is about people who went above and beyond their normal responsibilities to help. We think this reflects a special quality of people in the Homer community and we thank all of you who offered suggestions, concern, encouragement and helped us recover Buddy, especially Barb and Sherry.
