Rasmussen's throw of 52 feet, 8.25 inches broke the old mark set in 1997 by Austin Bundy of 50 feet, five inches.
Head Track and Field Coach Harry Rasmussen, also Erik's father, said he had a longer throw during the meet that was disqualified because it fell just outside the new, narrower vector, or field of play.
"It was a really good performance for him," Harry said.
Erik also teamed up with Noah McWilliams, Billy Edge and Matt Kinney to win the Field Person 4x100 Relay with a time of 50.69 seconds.
To qualify for the event, each sprinter must also compete in a field event.
Kinney also finished fifth in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 17.97.
The Mariner boys won the 4x200 meter relay with a time of 1:37.89. Homer finished fourth in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:07.75. And the Homer Freshman and Sophomore 1600 Sprint Medley team finished sixth at 4:20.71.
Levi Caitlin tied West's Isaiah Hoyer for fourth in the High Jump with a height of 5 foot, 6 inches. And Noah McWilliams finished third in the shot put with a throw of 41-06.50.
On the girls side, Mariner sprinter Marina Critchett finished third in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.95 seconds.
Erika Klaar finished fifth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1 minute, 5.60 seconds.
The girls 4x100 meter relay team finished fourth with a time of 1:02.21. The girls 800 sprint medley team finished fifth with a time of 2:07.71.

The Palmer relays are generally considered a fun event that attracts teams from throughout the state. Over the weekend Homer competed against teams from Anchorage, Juneau and the Valley.
"It's just one of those magical weekends when you just have fun," Harry Rasmussen said.
The Mariners will host Colony and Wasilla from the Valley as well as Kenai Borough teams at the Homer Invitational on Saturday.
Field events start in the morning, with track events kicking off in the afternoon.
