Men indicted for pot grow

Three Ninilchik men arrested in February for growing marijuana have been indicted by a federal grand jury in Anchorage.

U.S. Attorney Karen Loeffler announced Monday that the grand jury indicted Scott Hume, Christopher Norman and Kirk Turner on five counts for operating a grow operation out of two homes in Ninilchik. Alaska State Troopers investigated suspected grow operations at homes on Marion Street and Pioneer Street after receiving tips from citizens and allegedly smelling marijuana from outside.

The men are being prosecuted under the District of Alaska's Rural Prosecution Initiative. The Drug Enforcement Agency and Alaska Bureau of Drug and Alcohol Enforcement also investigated the case. If convicted, the men face prison terms of from five to 40 years.
