"Raccoon," a short film produced by AlsoRan Films and based on the writing of Richard Chiappone, creative writing instructor at Kachemak Bay Campus, won the Texas Filmmaker Award at the 35th Annual USA Film Festival. The festival is recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and is able to send its top prize winners to compete for the Oscars, according to Trey Nelson, producer. The film also was selected to attend the Montreal Film Festival in September.
Several events are scheduled for today in the Kenai and Soldotna area:
Auditions for William Shakespeare's "King Lear" will be held in the Mariner Theatre at 1 p.m. May 15. Auditions begin Aug. 1, performance is mid-September at Pier One Theatre. There are as many as 30 speaking parts and room for non-speaking performers, backstage help and technical assistants.
