Longtime Soldotna resident Mr. Robert Eugene "Bob" Evans, 78, died Saturday, April 30, 2005, of natural causes at his home in Soldotna.

Funeral services are 1 p.m. today, May 5, 2005, at Peninsula Memorial Chapel. Pastor Dean Nichols will officiate. Military honors will be performed by the American Legion, Post 20 and the V.F.W. Post 10046. A gathering will immediately follow the services at the Evans' residence.

Robert Evans was born July 17, 1926, to William and Gladys Evans in Stanberry, Mo. Bob attended and graduated from Stanberry High School in Stanberry, Mo. Bob entered into the U.S. Army in 1947 and served during the Korean Conflict until he was honorably discharged in 1949. Bob brought his family to Anchorage on April 1, 1958, and he then began working for Rowan Drilling Co. where he helped pioneer the Kenai oil field until 1967. Bob and his family moved to Soldotna in 1960 where throughout the years his family grew, setting roots in Soldotna. Bob then became self employed and began his business of B&M Enterprises, where he performed construction and long hauling. He was a member of the Teamsters, Local 959 from which he retired in 1981. Bob was also involved with Tops AK 164 and was named State King in 1997. Bob enjoyed Harley motorcycles and was an avid motorcycle enthusiast who rode as often as he could. He was a collector of many things. Bob will be missed very much by his family and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his daughter, Marion Sue Evans in 1954; and his parents, William and Gladys Evans.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Millie Evans of Soldotna; daughter and son in-law, Judy and Tom Miller of Sturgeon, Mo.; son and daughter in-law, James and Ann Evans of Hidden Lake, Calif.; daughter and son in-law, Kathy and Bobby Lewis of Soldotna; daughter and son in-law, Lisa and Steve Jackson of Great Falls, Mont.; son and daughter in-law, Johnny and Laura Evans of Soldotna; 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; stepfather and stepmother, Roy and Bonnie Trotter of St. Joseph, Mo.; brother, William Evans Jr.; and sister Doris Evans.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Central Peninsula Unit, P.O. Box 2165, Kenai, AK 99611.

Arrangements were by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
