Girls win two, lose one in long road trip

Staff report

The Mariner girls soccer team won two of three games over the weekend, beating Nikiski and Houston on the road before dropping a game to Wasilla.

Homer beat Nikiski 4-1 on Thursday, then got a hat trick from Gillian Beran-Maryott during a 3-0 win over Houston on Friday.

Beran-Maryott scored twice in the first half and again in the second as the Mariners pelted Houston goal tender Jen Gardner with shots.

On Saturday the shots Homer managed to get past Wasilla's defense never found the net in the 3-0 loss.

Homer will play host to Palmer and Colony on Friday and Saturday and Skyview on Monday.
