Homer long jumper Burl Tonga, with a jump of 17 feet and one-half inch, earned a first place finish at a May 2 track meet at Homer High.
For the boys, Mike Pate paced the Mariners with wins in both the 200 and 400-meter runs while Dyllan Day won the 100-meter sprint with a time of 11.85. Two HHS relay teams took home first in the 400 and 800-meter events and long jumper Burl Tonga was the only athlete to crack 17 feet, earning a first place finish in that event.
The Mariner boys and girls each placed second in the team standings, behind Skyview.

Homer's Brittney Wyatt put on a show in the hurdling events, taking first place in both the 100 and 300-meter hurdles. Kayla Williamson and Katie Miller also placed first in the 400 and 800-meter sprints respectively.
