2011 Spit Run is on

Last week after the Homer News announced it would not be able to sponsor the annual 10K race as it has in the past, several people stepped up with ideas to continue the event.

"It looks like the Spit Run will become a fundraiser for Homer High School running programs," said Lori Evans, publisher of the Homer News. "We're extremely grateful that people want the race to continue."

The Spit Run likely will have a suggested donation for the running programs, but everyone who wants to participate will be given the opportunity.

The race will be, as originally planned, June 25, starting at Homer High School and finishing just beyond the ferry terminal.

More details are expected to be announced next week.
