"We're actually scoping out sites for a cell tower, which will, of course, bring much improved service," Eisenberg said.
With one cell tower located on Diamond Ridge and the next one in the Stariski area, an Anchor Point tower "should provide contiguous coverage along the Sterling Highway," Eisenberg said.
Exactly how much coverage depends on the specific location of the tower.
"There are several sites being considered," he said. "We have not made a final determination."
Wherever it goes, the plan is to erect it during this build season.
At least two of the sites being considered are on property owned by Anchor River Inn, according to Jesse Clutts, ARI general manager. If chosen, the site would be leased by ACS from ARI.
"They're still doing soil samples to make sure it (the tower) is designed properly," Clutts said.
Mike Fergus, media relations for the Northwest Mountain Region of the Federal Aviation Administration, said FAA's airports division is aware of work being planned by ACS.
"None of the sites that we're aware of have any problem with the Homer airport," Fergus said.
FAA also is aware of concerns of pilots using a nearby private airstrip close to the bluff, but Fergus said, "We have nothing to do with (private airstrips)."
ACS routinely submits a notice of proposed construction to FAA for every project being done, according Fergus.
"We have not received anything from them. That tells us they have not made up their mind on what site to use," Fergus said.
