Longtime Alaskan and Homer resident Joyce Lorraine Moe, 77, died Saturday, April 25, 2009, at Main Street Assisted Living in Homer. A celebration of her life will be held early this summer.

Mrs. Moe enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, beachcombing, sewing and bird watching.
"She was always generous and helpful to all that knew and met her. She never waded into anything, she jumped in feet first. She was never accused of being shy and loved to brag about Alaska when she traveled outside. She had a fondness for animals, naming dogs 'Rusty' and cats 'Tobits' through the years. She loved to sing country music," her family said. Mrs. Moe was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Moe, who died, Sept. 9, 2001.
She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Leonard W. Smith of Anchorage and Lon E. and Sharon Y. West-Smith of Fairbanks; granddaughters, Melissa M. and Angela M. Smith, also of Fairbanks. Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
Mrs. Moe was born Aug. 6, 1931, at International Falls, Minn. After graduating from high school, she traveled extensively, living in Europe, the South Pacific and across the Lower 48. She moved to Alaska in November 1967, living on Annette Island. She moved to Kodiak in 1969, and in 1974 to Peters Creek. She moved to Homer in 1983. She was a housewife, help mate and mother.
