The American Legion Auxiliary sells memorial poppies from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. May 23-24 at Eagle Quality Center. Poppy cans are also at many local businesses.
Memorial Day services start at 10 a.m. May 26 at the American Legion Post 16, East End Road. Groups leave from there to Homer, Anchor Point and Ninilchik cemeteries for short services honoring America's veterans.
The Council for the Kachemak Bay Research Reserve meets from 1-4:30 p.m. May 27 at the Research Reserve office on Kachemak Drive. There will be an opportunity for public comment at 1:15 p.m. Call 235-4799, ext. 5.

The Kachemak Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve holds a public meeting at 6 p.m. June 4 as part of its federal performance evaluation under the federal Coastal Zone Management Act of 1972. Information on the evaluation process can be found at www.ocrm.nos.noaa.gov/pdf/eval.pdf. The purpose of the meeting is to receive public comments regarding the operation of the Kachemak Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve.
