Conservation funds distributed
Seven local schools, the Homer Boys and Girls club, and the Homer Public Library recently were the recipients of more than $1,000 in bird resource materials. The gift came from the Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival Conservation Fund, established in 2001 to ensure future generations will be able to experience and enjoy the annual shorebird migration in the Homer area.

The core of the funds came from the auction of the shorebird poster created by Carla Stanley and Conrad Field, while donations also were contributed to the fund.

In 2002, schools, libraries and youth clubs in the Homer area were surveyed regarding their shorebird-related resources. Based on the results, more than $1,000 worth of materials, such as books, posters and other resources, were assembled and distributed prior to this year's Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival.
