Are your studded tires off? Seems there were a lot of people that thought they didn’t have to get them off until May 15. It was April 15.
Summer is on its way. That time of year where you can’t sleep due to too much light. And if it’s not the light that’s keeping you up it’s the river. Fish on. Speaking of fish, the Anchor River opens Saturday. Please make sure to pick up your regulation booklet when you get your license. Hope to see you on the river. Good luck fishing. Be safe out there.
Anchor Point Chamber of Commerce
The last luncheon for the season will be May 24. The guest speaker will be the chairman of the Memorial Weekend festivities. Luncheons will resume after Labor Day. You can pick up a schedule of events for Memorial Day weekend at the chamber office or at businesses around Anchor Point.
Anchor Point Library
The library’s annual meeting and elections will be held June 12 at 6 p.m. at the library. The summer reading program will begin around Memorial Day. Some great changes involving automating library checkouts are happening. Thanks to Lionel Haakenson for building the book drop-off box, and thanks to Lora and Bob Craig for setting up the automating system. Your time in these projects is appreciated. Anyone wanting to help, please let the library know.
Anchor Point Senior Citizen Center
There is bingo Friday. There will be a flea market over Memorial Day weekend on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Also there will be breakfast served over the holiday weekend. The schedule will be from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and from 7-11 a.m. Monday. A helping hand is needed for Helping Hands this summer. Anyone interested in volunteering, is asked to call 235-7786.
Fire traning
There will be a free-to-the public Fire Corps Training at the fire hall at 5 p.m. today. This is information for private individuals about how to prevent wild fires in our own back yards. Joe Kent is volunteering his time to teach this class. Thanks, Joe. Topics include the approaching wildfire, how to preplan evacuation, techniques on protecting homes, wildland fire preparedness, and how to use the knowledge of fire behavior to defend homes.
Chapman School
Kindergarten graduation is at 2 p.m. Friday. The eighth-grade graduation is at 7 p.m. May 23. The all-school barbecue will start at 11:15 a.m. May 25 at the Chapman playground.
VFW Post 10221
The Marine Corps League Convention will be Friday and Saturday. Steak night is Saturday with karaoke to follow dinner. Cemetery cleanup is on Saturday. People are needed to help with this. Volunteers should meet at the post at 9 a.m. Memorial Weekend festivities get under way May 27 with horseshoe tournaments, pool tournaments, badminton and plenty of food. Live music with Too Fat to Fly starts at 8 p.m. May 27. May 28 is installation of officers. There is a schedule of events at the post, so stop by to pick one up. Members and guests are welcome.
