Claes Nobel, the senior member of he family that established the Nobel Prizes and founder of the National Society of High School Scholars, has awarded a $1,000 National Honor Award to Phillips Academy student Kristen Faulkner of Homer. Faulkner was selected for the award from nearly 14,000 applicants for excellence in academics, leadership and community service, and is invited to one of the NSHSS recognition ceremonies in Washington, D.C., New Orleans, Al., or Atlanta, Ga.

McNeil Canyon Elementary School

As they do each year, McNeil Canyon sixth-graders are selling Fritz Creek Garden certificates through May 16. The certificates are available from sixth-graders, at the school office or at the Homer Bookstore. The certificates cost $20 and are redeemable for $20, with Fritz Creek Garden owner Rita Jo Shoultz donating a portion of the proceeds to the class.

Faith Christian Preschool is now registering children 3-5 years old for the 2011-2012 preschool year. It is located at Faith Lutheran Church, 1000 Soundview Avenue, across from West Homer Elementary School. For options available, call 235-7600.
