Klaar finished third in the 100-meter and 200-meter sprints Saturday at the Region III Track and Field Championships held at Skyview High School and is ranked seventh statewide in both events.
Erik Rasmussen missed qualifying in the discus by 14 inches. He finished sixth at regions with a throw of 120 feet, 2 inches.
The boys 800-meter relay team recorded its fastest time of the year to finish third at one minute, 36.4 seconds, but came up two seconds short of qualifying for state.
The girls finished 11th as a team at regions getting points from Klaar, Anna Duz (fifth in the 1,600) and the 1,600 relay team that finished fourth with a time of 4:25.96.
The boys tied for 10th at regions.
Justin Smith finished sixth in the 200 with a time of 23.89 seconds. The boys 400-meter relay team finished sixth at 48.33.
Track Coach Harry Rasmussen said the young Mariner track team learned a lot this season.
"I think we turned a lot of athletes that came out for track into track athletes," he said. "I'm proud of the kids. They had a good work ethic and made improvements. You can't ask for anything more than that."
