Fowler's plans unclear
Upon returning to Homer in early May I learned that several town meetings were held by a city-contracted engineering firm asking the public about their visions for nonmotorized trails in and around Homer. Bravo Homer.

And then I read a letter to the editor two weeks ago by John Fowler and now I'm confused. He mentions that he and his group "have been advocating for and working to create a park and trail network around Homer" and that many key elements are in place regarding this project. That's great and I applaud his work toward this goal. However, my question is this: Is the park/trails project that Mr. Fowler is advocating the same one the city is studying? Are he and his partners working with the city toward this broad trails goal? Or is his project more of a "for-profit" venture? The reason I ask is that I know that Mr. Fowler owns large sections of land abutting and within several of his proposed "parks" and that he plans to develop these land holdings. Is his project different than the cities? Shouldn't we all be working together for trails?

I know that Mr. Fowler has lots of innovative ideas about conscientious land development for which I admire him. I have no argument with thoughtful land development. But to avoid confusion I feel that it is essential that he be honest and candid when communicating with Homer as to his professional goals and agenda as well as his conceptual visions concerning land/trails development. This honesty is especially important for nonresidents who come to town to implement their ideas here. John, why not do a public presentation outlining your concepts as well as your business plan to the community and city council members. Maybe we could all work together somehow toward this wonderful goal.
