Pet of the Week

Smokey got his name for his jet-black coat and his somber, mysterious eyes. Like Smokey Bear, he's a big fan of the yellowshirts, the wildland firefighters who heroically fought the East End Road fire. If you're looking for a dog to warm up your heart, think about this affectionate 2-year-old black Labrador retriever. He's a strong guy and pulls hard, but loves people and other dogs.

If you would like to adopt a pet, call or stop by the animal shelter across from the Public Works off the Sterling Highway. The shelter is open Tuesday through Saturday, noon-5 p.m. Call 235-3141 for information.
