Homer artists receive Rasmuson awards
The Rasmuson Foundation last week awarded grants to three Homer artists: Peter Lind Sr., Scott Dickerson and Michael Walsh. Lind, a traditional artist who carves Alutiiq kayaks, weapons and bentwood visors, received a $12,000 artist fellowship award. Lind will use the funds to upgrade and improve the environmental quality of his studio. Dickerson, a photographer, received a $5,000 project grant to purchase a paramotor to increase aerial photography opportunities. Walsh, a filmmaker who recently did an artist-in-the-school residency at Homer Flex High School, also received a $5,000 project grant to purchase equipment for a new installation.
The Rasmuson Foundation named Nathan Jackson, a visual artist, carver, mentor and jewelry maker, its 2009 Distinguished Artist. The foundation named eight fellows and awarded 17 project grants. Former Homer residents Andromeda Romano-Lax and Mei Mei Evans also received awards.
