Kevin M. Towsley

March 7, 1970-May 14, 2009

Kevin Michael Towsley, 39, died May 14, 2009, at Seward Providence Medical Center after a valiant five-month battle with pancreatic cancer. A hero's farewell is at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 23, 2009, in Seward beginning with a procession along Second Avenue followed by a memorial at the Dale Lindsey Railway Terminal. A potluck reception is after the service at the Legends building. Kevin was born March 7, 1970, in Long Beach, Calif. His family moved to Homer in 1977 and then to Seward in 1981. He was a 1988 graduate of Seward High School.

Some of the places Kevin worked included Bay Fuels, city of Seward Jail, as well as reserve officer and Spring Creek Correctional Center. For the past eight years Kevin worked as a mechanic/heavy equipment operator for the city of Seward public works department. He loved his job. He was active in the community and achieved the rank of captain at Bear Creek Fire Department, where he volunteered for more than 19 years.

"Kevin could be counted on to work hard, laugh often and always found time to help family, friends and neighbors," his family said. "Kevin was an endlessly loyal friend and loving father, son and brother who encouraged all of us to live our lives full of courage, humor and love, as he did, especially during his final courageous battle."

Kevin is survived by his cherished children, Jacob, 15, the twins Chynna and Christopher Towsley, 13; mother, Claudia Towsley; sisters, Debra and Jody Towsley; nephews, Brian Weimar, Kyle Toler and Dustin McHone; aunt, Linda Pierce and her family; and many, many more friends and extended family; Mabel Towsley, the mother of his children; and his recent wife Suzi and her boys, Richey, Charlie and Johnathan Mack.

Kevin was preceded in death by his father, Mike Towsley, and uncle, Herk Towsley. Arrangements are with Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel in Anchorage. In lieu of flowers there is an account at Wells Fargo set up by the family, "Towsley Kids," for future support.
