Homer artists, musician earn Rasmuson awards

Two Homer artists and a musician received Rasmuson Individual Artist Awards, the Rasmuson Foundation announced last week. Artists Kate Boyan and Mavis Muller each received $12,000 artist fellowships. Singer-songwriter Caressa Bohrer received a $5,000 project award.

Boyan will use her fellowship to experiment in installation art by creating a series of beaded pieces about dipnetting for red salmon. Muller, who organizes the annual Burning Basket construction on the Homer Spit, will use her fellowship to learn new technical skills in presenting and documenting the story of baskets as impermanent art. Bohrer will use her award to purchase professional recording equipment.

Ketchikan artist Ray Troll received the foundation's $25,000 Distinguished Artist award. Thirty-one Alaska artists received awards in the latest announcement.
