Bunnell Street Gallery is hosting a year-end artist-in-the-schools reception and discussion at the gallery at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Participating artists and schools are invited to share perspectives and views of how to improve the program. In its eighth year, it is administered independently, funded and reviewed by the Alaska State Council on the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, ConocoPhillips and private donors.
Pier One Theatre starts the 2005 summer season with "Louisa," directed by Barbara Petersen and written by Shirley Timmreck, with music by Ann Griffin. It will be performed at 8:15 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 4 p.m. Sunday and 7:30 p.m. Monday. Saturday's performance will be a gala birthday celebration for Timmreck, and will be catered by Two Sisters Bakery. Tickets are $25.
"Louisa" follows the adventures of four independent ladies in a retirement home. Carter and Clarice, a down-to-earth couple, keep the home running, like their ladies and protect them from the business-minded administrator. The play shows the other ladies that getting lder can really be more fun and interesting than they realize.

Piere One theatre has scheduled auditions for "The Rocky Horror Show" at Mariner Theatre at 6 p.m. June 3 and 4 p.m. June 4.
The Pratt Museum has invited the public to participate in a community conversation on freedom of expression and decency. It will be held in the lower level of the museum at 6 p.m. June 8.
Homer Council on the Arts has extended its summer hours to include Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., for ticket sales, class registration and gallery viewing. For more information, call 235-4288.
Fifty prizes, including a $1,000 grand prize, will be awarded in a special religious poetry contest sponsored by Christian Fine Arts society, free to everyone.
