Homer Yacht Club's 70-some members sail into summer with a Memorial Day race on Saturday. And just in case the weather is too calm, the air too still, Sunday is set aside as a back-up day, according to Yacht Club Commodore Craig Forrest.
The race's course will be decided during a skippers meeting at 11 a.m. on P-float of the Homer harbor.
Wanna-be-sailors are encouraged to join in the fun and fresh air, no boat or experience required.
This is just the beginning of the club's busy sailing season, with more events scheduled through Labor Day. Over the June 24 to 26 weekend, a regatta and a rowboat race on Kachemak Bay are being organized. A clambake in Jakalof Bay is planned for July 23.

Other events throughout the week require reservations and/or fees.
