Instead they left with a dominant win and their second loss of the season.
In game one, Mariner pitcher Nyssa Baechler struck out eight batters and allowed only one hit and the team cruised to an easy 18-1 win.
Game two was something different entirely.
"I'm not sure who showed up in our uniforms but it wasn't us," said Head Softball Coach Bill Bell.
Seward scored early and often and took a 9-6 lead into the sixth inning.
At the time the Mariner coach wasn't too concerned.
"We were only down by three runs and Nyssa came back to pitch," Bell said. "I figured she'd shut them down and we'd score some runs in the next inning."
Instead, the Mariners didn't get a chance to bat.
The Seahawks throttled Baechler and the Mariners for seven runs to take a 10-run lead and the mercy rule victory.
"The wheels just fell off," Bell said.
The Mariners finished the season with a 15-2 record, 8-2 in conference and will travel to Fairbanks June 3 for the state tournament.
Bell said the loss might do some good for a Mariner squad brimming with confidence going into state.
"I'm actually pretty happy to see it," Bell said. "It shook them up a bit."
The Mariners are going to take a small break before returning to practice this week.
