The Kenai Peninsula pulled through what was probably its biggest tourist weekend ever with surprisingly few problems. At the peak of the weekend there were more than 300 recreational vehicles on the Homer Spit.

Three local airmen, spotting for the herring fleet in Bristol Bay, died Tuesday when two planes collided and crashed on the mainland about 40 miles west of Dillingham.
