The first tagged fish of the season, worth $1,000, was brought in by Mark Breci of Eagle River. A Homer News sponsored halibut worth $10,000 only for the month of June, was tagged with and released last week for a lucky angler to catch. Derby tickets are $10 and can be found at a variety of shops on the Spit as well as derby headquarters. Tom Barkman won last year's derby with a 322.8-pound fish, earning him a $33,384 overall first-prize check.
