Coal Bay Sandwich Company is a quiet, unassuming building on the Sterling Highway as you pull into Homer. Combining great food and friendly, family service, Coal Bay is a wonderful stop for a fulfilling summer lunch. Sandwiches with names such as The Mother Lode and the Big Dipper conjure up images of hardy Alaskan men and women living off the land and eating full suppers. Look around the restaurant and you will see the faces of those very men and women in great old photographs of the first and the true Alaskans. Try your luck at finishing the Mother Lode, or make your own sandwich from a wide variety of fresh ingredients. All sandwiches are made right when you order them, and any sandwich on the menu can be served on a variety of breads: white, multi-grain, wraps, and brand-new pitas! Open from 11am to 6 pm Monday through Saturday, Coal Bay Sandwiches follows through on it’s colorfully rendered promise: Nobody leaves hungry.
