Donald Ralph Holten

Aug. 8, 1946-Jan. 8, 2011

Donald Ralph Holten, genius mechanic and metal-worker, died Jan. 8, 2011, after a year-long fight against cancer.

Don served in the Army, honing his skills and earning a reputation as a man who could make anything run before being honorably discharged and moving to Alaska. He moved to Homer with his wife and youngest son, later to be joined by his mother and oldest son.

He is survived by his mother, Dottie Holten; brother James Holten; two sons, Donald James and Cliff; daughter Terri and his one-time wife Lily Nann. He also leaves behind a staggering number of beloved tools and projects. Those who knew him should remember him in their own way, but everyone can agree he was a man who broke the mold.

Information about fire, police and troopers is taken from public records consisting of logbooks and press releases.
