The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities has announced to commercial truckers, fishermen and other members of the general public affected by oversize load crossings of bridges currently restricted to 11-foot land widths that a three-day opening to allow wide load crossings of up to 16-feet has been scheduled for Deep Creek and Ninilchik River bridges. The opening will begin no later than 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, June 3, and end at 7 a.m. Saturday, June 6. During this opening, Deep Creek and Ninilchik River bridge crossings will remain single lane, alternating traffic, controlled by flaggers. Beginning Saturday, June 6, single-lane traffic crossings of the Ninilchik River bridge will shift to the southbound lane, with a minimum lane width of 12-feet. Deep Creek bridge traffic will remain in the 16-foot wide northbound lane until further notice. The lane-width restriction is part of a bridge rehabilitation project now underway along the Sterling Highway on the lower Kenai Peninsula.
