Homer Alaska - Letters

Story last updated at 8:25 PM on Wednesday, June 8, 2011

Graduate expresses gratitude

It is with great pride and respect that I write this letter of gratitude. My journey is continuing as I follow my dreams. In the fall, I will be leaving to attend Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, Colo. majoring in kinesiology-exercise science and wrestling for the Mesa Maverick.

Over the years, I have always taken pride in representing Homer High School, Homer and the surrounding communities. I will continue to do so with the gracious support of the following: Kachemak Board of Realtors, Kachemak Bay Lions, The Homer Foundation Health Care Providers Scholarship, Homer Foundation Community Science Scholarship and Homer Elks Lodge No. 2127 Scholarship.

In addition, I have accepted Colorado Mesa University Trustee's Scholarship and Maverick Wrestling Scholarship.

As I start my journey, I take comfort in knowing who I am and where I come from. As Dan Gable says: "Once you have done wrestling, everything in life is easy." Perhaps this is true, yet I will continue to keep my "head up and hips down" and remember "the harder I work the luckier I get" and never forget those who encouraged me, gave of themselves and always allowed me to dream in color.
