Special thanks to all the water taxi companies who once again donated the cost of their service: Bay Excursions, Mako's Water Taxi, MK Logistics, Homer Ocean Charters and Smoke Wagon Water Taxi.
I also would like to thank the Homer High School students with the HAYEA group who worked on the Coalition Trail. Last but not least, thanks to Dave Brann and the Nordic Ski Club volunteers who worked out at Eveline State Recreation Site. Thanks also to the staff and volunteers at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitor Center who helped sign everyone up.
Everyone had a great time with no injuries, except some sore muscles the next day. We could not have asked for better weather.
I cannot end this without thanking the State Park crews, mostly volunteers from all over the country, plus their leaders. Under the leadership of Park Technician Eric Clarke, they worked hard getting things ready for everyone, even though most have only been here for three weeks. These young men and women still have a lot of work to do. Many of the more remote trails still need to be cleared, so please be patient as they work hard the next few weeks to open all the trails in the park as well as rebuild a couple.
Finally, we have Trails Day T-shirts still available, so call me if you would like to purchase one. The proceeds go to paying for them with a small profit to the Friends of Kachemak Bay State Park.
If anyone still has one of the yellow State Park hard hats, please return them to me or drop them off at one of the water taxis. Thanks.
Roger MacCampbell, district ranger
Kachemak Bay/Anchor River District
