Memorial services were held June 4, 2005, at the Independent Baptist Church in Homer. His ashes will be buried at a later date at his home.
Mr. Glass was born April 27, 1942, in Muskogee, Okla. He graduated from high school and also furthered his education with two years of college. Mr. Glass also served for four years in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Glass first arrived in Alaska in the spring of 1976 to work as a journeyman electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers on the Alaska pipeline. He and his family made their home in Fairbanks in 1980, when he returned to work as an electrician on the North Slope. He made his final journey to Alaska on July 21, 1989, when he and his wife arrived in Homer. They purchased property in Anchor Point in the fall of 1989 and made their home.
Mr. Glass was a 35-year member of the I.B.E.W., retiring in 2001.
Mr. Glass was a member of the AmVets and Moose Lodge. He was also involved with the Anchor Point Neighborhood Crime Watch. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and flying.
His family said, "As a young man, Jim read the poem, 'The Cremation of Sam McGee,' by Robert Service, and became intrigued by the Last Frontier. As a pilot, Jim was able to explore this vast territory enjoying the hunting and fishing that Alaska provided. He deeply loved the Alaskan way of life."
Mr. Glass was preceded in death by his twin sister, Janice Calhoun of Lynn Haven, Fla. He is survived by his wife, Delia A. Glass of Anchor Point; his family, Jana M. Glass of Hollywood, Fla., Mariam E. Glass of Homer, Jay and Eileen Glass of Heber City, Utah, Irma J. Rhodes King of Anchorage, and Nick and Shawn Rhodes of Anchor Point; grandchildren, Elissa Glass, Austin Vance, Jamey Glass, Kody Glass, T.J. Glass, Marshall Jensen, Nicholas T. Rhodes and Kayla Phelps.
Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
Anchor Point resident James E. Glass, known to many as Boudreau, died May 28, 2005, at his home in Anchor Point.
