Bridge work continues on peninsula

The Alaska Department of Transportation has released an update on the bridge resurfacing projects currently underway on Deep Creek and Ninilchik River, with work to begin next month on the Kasilof River bridge.

Deep Creek bridge: As scheduled, the 16-foot single lane width will be reduced to a 12-foot width as work begins on the hydro demolition of the bridge's northbound lane. The 12-foot width configuration includes plywood extensions atop the barriers. It was scheduled to be in place Wednesday, and will continue until further notice or approximately two weeks.

Ninilchik River bridge: The current 12-foot lane width will continue until further notice. Plywood extensions above the barriers are expected to be down by the early part of next week.

Kasilof River bridge: Work will not begin on this bridge until after the July 4 weekend. A public meeting will be scheduled in Kasilof before project start-up, sometime during the week of June 22.

"Overall, the project is going well and in accordance with the project flow chart distributed at the (Ninilchik) public open house," said Project Engineer Tal Maxwell.
