Homer motorists and city officials were surprised Thursday morning to find Lake Street closed off between Pioneer Avenue and the entrance to Lakeside Mall for a road-resurfacing project. City Manager Walt Wrede said the city was not notified in advance by the Alaska Department of Transportation that the state-owned road was going to be closed and the Public Works Department received several calls from frustrated motorists. ADOT spokesperson Rick Feller said he, too, was unaware the road was being repaired Thursday but said fixing Lake Street is high priority for the state.
