The following poem was written by Melanie Whitney; the last verse is from a song:
Yes when it happened
It saddened our hearts
But we know that in spirit
We’ll never ever part
This Rose that was shattered
In the garden where we strolled
Is now blooming above
And that, we all know
He left us with something
that will never go away
The Promise of His Love
that will never decay
Just remember in the winter
far beneath the bitter snow
lies the seed that with the sun’s love
in the spring becomes the ROSE
“A very kind, gentle and sensitive person, Damon’s passing leaves those around him wondering why,” his family said. Damon is survived by his father, Doug Meeker, and father’s partner Melanie Whitney, both of Homer; mother Janice Spikes of Pine, Colo.; brother Ryan Meeker of Greeley, Colo., and sister Kimberly Meeker Bowers of San Diego.
