Flanked by his mother, Linda, and brother, Kevin, Brian Rowe, 10, shows off his trophy for the Ken and Liz Wardwell fishing award. Brian is the first recipient of the award given to the youngest angler to enter a fish during the annual All-American Kids' Fishing Derby. Brian's fish weighed 14.1 pounds. On the trophy is a quote from Ken Wardwell, an avid angler: "For every hour you work you should fish for two." The Wardwells were killed in a car crash earlier this year. The trophy was donated by Bay Realty, where Ken Wardwell worked.
Brandon, who lives in Anchor Point for much of the summer, walked away with three trophies for his efforts during the annual All-American Kids’ Fishing Derby: the James Roomne Memorial Sportsmanship Award, the award in the casting contest for his age group and the award for the largest king in his age group. He landed a 25-pound king. His catch was just two-tenths of a pound shy of the derby champion, which was caught by Robert Logan, 15, of Homer.

The annual tournament is sponsored by the Anchor Point Chamber of Commerce, the Anchor Angler and the South Peninsula Sportsmen’s Association.

Other winners of the casting contest included: Jennasea Puterbaugh of Homer, age 4; Isabella Koch of Anchor Point, 5; and Ethan Koch of Anchor Point, 9.

In addition to Robert Logan and Brandon Markson, other young anglers winning trophies for landing the largest fish in their age categories included: Amanda Del Frate of Palmer for her 16.3-pound fish; Ashley Ketelle of Homer for her 16.1-pound fish; and Brian Rowe of Homer for his 14.1-pound catch. Brian also won the Ken and Liz Wardwell Youngest Fisherman Trophy,
