Art Shop Gallery’s Summer Alaskan Artist Series continues this weekend, with visiting artist Bruce Nelson of Kodiak. Nelson will open “Stuff on the Beach,” a new show of original oils on mason board. Meet the artist and discuss his technique for painting sand at the gallery 1-7 p.m. Friday and noon-5 p.m. Saturday.
Gallery invites public to cove
A fund-raiser for Bunnell Street Gallery is scheduled for Saturday in Halibut Cove. It features dinner, beverages, live music by Cento Nova and an auction of fine art items at the Center for Creative Renewal. Tickets are $100 per person, which includes round-trip transportation aboard the Rainbow Connection, departing Homer Harbor at 6:30 p.m., returning by 10:30. Painting workshop in Seward
“On the Scene,” an informal plein air painting weekend, will take place in Seward Friday-Sunday. Artists of all descriptions, including beginners, from all over Alaska will meet at Sailing, Inc., where maps of painting spots will be available, as well as cell phone numbers for late arrivals. At the end of the weekend Sunday, an informal art show and sale will be held at Sailing Inc. from 4-6 p.m. Bring your own supplies and easel. Dancing for the birds
Homer’s first Crane Dance, a celebration of cranes, will be held at Homer Elks Lodge, 5 p.m.-2 a.m. July 1. This is a collaboration of Downward Dog Productions and Cranehaven Studio, and is sponsored by Kachemak Conservation Society. Participating bands include Flow Motion of Vancouver, Wash., as well as performance, visual and interactive art and a multimedia show. Admission is $15. Photography workshop across bay
Across the Bay Tent and Breakfast Adventure Company is offering a close-up photography workshop July 7-9, and taught by internationally exhibited photographer Hal Gage of Anchorage.
