Marjory first came to Alaska with her husband and daughter in 1952 in a 1949 Buick Roadmaster pulling a 31-foot trailer. After many mechanical difficulties and near accidents, they finally settled down in Spenard. After adding a son to the family, they moved to Winchester Road off Abbott Loop Road in Anchorage, where they lived until 1978. The family then moved to Marysville, Wash. She and her husband and daughter lived there for 17 years until they moved to Homer, where she lived the rest of her life.
Marjory was a pilot, painter and businesswoman, but the two great joys of her life — other than her family — were painting Alaska scenes and singing in the Sweet Adelines in shows and competitions. Gardening was also a passion, which earned her a master gardening certificate.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Edmond Simon and Jessie Daniels, and a brother, Robert Leeper.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and John Thompson, both of Homer; her son and daughter-in-law, Warren and Kathy Daniels of Fairbanks; her grand-daughter and her husband, Theresa and Rick Pierce; great-grandson, Zachary Mayes; and great-granddaughters, Alexis Pierce and Amber Pierce, both of Homer.
Longtime pioneer resident Marjory Jean Daniels, 81, died June 9, 2005. At her request, there will not be any services. She wished to be cremated and her ashes spread in her beloved spots within Alaska.
