Homer Alaska - Anchor Point

Story last updated at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, June 23, 2010

Fourth of July will be busy in AP

It is now officially summer. Clouds seem to be covering up our much needed sunshine but I'm not giving up hope that it's still on it's way. There soon will be sounds of thunder our way. Hoka Hey riders are headed to beautiful Alaska. Let's give them a big welcome as they pass through Anchor Point on their way to the end of a 7,000-mile ride. Good luck to all the riders and may your journey be safe.

It will be a very busy July 4th this year with many warriors amongst us. Passing by the Anchor Point Chamber reads a sign "The Ducks Are In." Have you bought your duck yet? Stop by the chamber or one of our local businesses to purchase a duck. Have a great weekend, be safe and good luck on the water.

Anchor Point has many fun and interesting activities to make your time here memorable. Be sure to visit us at the Visitors Information Center at 34175 Sterling Highway.

The Fourth of July Celebration will take place around the Anchor River State Recreation Area. It will include a community parade with the lineup at Silver King Campground; a free barbecue and carnival at Slidehole Campground; the Rubber Duckie Race from the Anchor River bridge; a chili cookoff and dessert contest; and a kids' coin hunt. Times for these events will be posted.

Other Anchor Point events happening this summer include the Kids Fishing Derby on Aug. 14 at the Anchor River State Park Recreation Area and the Cook Inlet Mountaineers Labor Day Rendezvous on Sept. 4
