Anchor Point prepares for dazzling July 4th: ducks, parade, lots of food

Summer has now begun. So, can someone now tell me why it is only 40 degrees and we are having to turn the heaters on a smidgen to take off that chill? Uffda!

When driving past our local RV parks it seems that they aren't as full as usual at this time of year, but what a beautiful drive it is. Wherever you go you can view the Alaska wildflowers that are in bloom and brighten up our roadways. Tourist numbers seem to be down, but I heard the salmon fishing is picking up a little. Hope you have set some time aside to enjoy the great outdoors. Have a great weekend, be safe and good luck on the water.

Anchor Point Chamber of Commerce

The ducks are in, the ducks are in. That's right -- you can purchase your duck for the Fourth of July Duck Race at the chamber office and visitor center and other local businesses. Blue ducks are $1, pink ducks $3 and yellow ducks are $5. There is a first, second and third place for all color of ducks.

The Fourth of July parade will begin at 1 p.m. Line up is at 12:30 p.m. The duck race will follow the parade. The community picnic will follow the duck race. The chamber and visitor center will supply the hot dogs, chips and beverage, so please bring a side dish to share.

Also, there will be a chili cook-off and a dessert cook-off. You can pick up applications for both events at the chamber office. Buttons are on sale for $2 and the button needs to be present to win the grand prize.

You will find a schedule of events in local businesses or can pick one up at the chamber office. It's family fun time.

Anchor Point Senior Center

Tonight's dinner will be chicken enchiladas and Mexican rice. Dinner is served at 6 p.m. Everyone is invited for bingo fun at 7 p.m. Friday.

From 9 a.m.-4 p.m. July 18, the center will have a fabric sale.

VFW Post 10221

The VFW's monthly fish fry will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday.

The post also will host a horseshoe tournament on July 4, followed by hamburgers and hot dogs at 3 p.m. Live music will begin at 8 p.m. July 5, the post will have its pool tournament at 7 p.m.

Don't forget about Monday taco nights. All members and guests welcome.

The post still has a Sharp copier free to a small business or home office. If interested, call 235-5582 or 235-4101 and leave a message.
