Dipnetting from a boat is allowed from Fish and Game markers on the Cook Inlet beaches upstream approximately three miles to Trujillo's Landing.
The red escapement for Kasilof River is projected to exceed the upper end of the escapement goal which is 300,000 fish.
Nearly 100,000 sockeyes have already returned to the river and the run is just getting started historically.
Fish and Game also increased the sport fishing bag limit for salmon other than kings on the river from three per day and three in possession to six fish per day and 12 in possession.
Commercial set gillnetters were allowed up to 12 additional hours of fishing as well.
China Poot Dipnetting
The local favorite China Poot Creek dipnetting season opens Friday and runs through Aug. 7.
The fishery, a by-product of a commercial fishing enhancement run, pulls plenty of resident anglers to the south side of Kachemak Bay each season.
Dipnetters are allowed six sockeye salmon per person per day and no permit is required.
If you plan on heading to this fishery remember to give the commercial fleet a wide and respectful berth.
The opportunity to fish there is only possible because of money put back into the system each year by the commercial fleet.
Snagging open on the Homer Spit
The Alaska Department of Fish and Game opened the Fishing Hole (renamed the Nick Dudiak Fishing Lagoon) to snagging Wednesday, and it will remain open through Monday.
All other regulations pertaining to this fishery remain in effect including the daily bag limit of two king salmon of any size.
The harvest of a king salmon 20 inches or longer must be recorded, in ink, immediately on the back of the license or on a harvest record card.

His 276.2 pounder was caught last month with Capt. Dave Cloud on Time Out Charters.
The June leaders remained the same this week as Glenn Buchhorn from Bartlett, Tex., held on to the top spot with his 228.8-pound fish caught aboard the M/V Falcon with captain Tony Arsenault.
