Cloudy skies won't dampen festivities

Welcome Hoka Hey Riders to beautiful Alaska and Anchor Point. We hope you enjoy your stay. Safe travels. Congratulations to all you warriors for your tough callenge.

The beginning of this week looked a little bleak, but Monday afternoon the sun decided to shine and seemed to put a few smiles on some faces out there. Seems we may have cloudy skies and rain in the forecast for our Fourth of July weekend of festivities, but that won't stop us from having a great holiday. The Anchor Point Chamber has some great events for the Fourth, and I would like to say thank you, chamber, and all your volunteers for all you do for our community — you make a difference.

Wishing every one a great weekend. Be safe and good luck on the water. Happy birthday, USA!

Anchor Point Chamber of Commerce

Get your ducks. Don't forget to buy your Fourth of July button. There are schedules at the chamber and at local businesses that you can pick up. The complete schedule can be found on page 7 of today's newspaper.

Upcoming events:

The Kids Fishing Derby will be Aug. 14 at the Anchor River State Recreation Area. The Cook Inlet Mountaineers Labor Day Rendezvous will be Sept. 4.

Anchor Point Senior Center

Tonight's dinner will be chicken fried steak starting at 5:30. Bingo is Friday night. All are welcome.

VFW Post 10221

The post is having a Wisconsin Spaghetti Feed at 5 p.m. today. That's right: the cheeseheads are making a good old-fashioned Spaghetti Feed.

Saturday the post will have a horseshoe tournament at 1 p.m. Those who are interested in playing should sign up between noon and 12:30 p.m. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be served from 1-3 p.m. Saturday is also steak night from 6-7:30 p.m. Live music by 8 Mile Band starts at 8 p.m.

Sunday there will be a fish fry starting at 3 p.m. The Ladies Auxiliary will have a dessert auction at 5 p.m. Then, it's time for a good game of pool. The pool tournament is at 7 p.m. with sign up at 6:30 p.m. Don't forget Monday is Taco Nite from 5-7 p.m. and Burger and Brew is on Fridays from 5-7:30 p.m. Members and guests are welcome.

Welcome Hoka Hey veterans and all riders. Have a great Fourth of July.
