Homer student gets full arts scholarship
Karl Schwiesow has received a $24,000 four-year scholarship to student art at Sierra Nevada College, Incline Village, Nev. The son of Doug Schwiesow and Bonnie Kilcher, Schwiesow was raised in Homer. This year he graduated from Lake Tahoe Community College with an associate of arts degree. Last year he was in the Sierra Nevada College's invitational art show and gained attention with his sculpture, "Cube," winning first place.
"I want to experiment with ceramic wood and ceramic metal sculpture, as well as functional forms," Schwiesow said of his future studies.
"We are excited about Karl being in our department," said Lynn Gillette, Sierra Nevada College provost. "His work is really intriguing, and he'll bring great energy to Sierra Nevada College."
