A potluck wake is at 4 p.m. July 3, 2004, at the Down East Saloon on East End Road.
Mr. Reisdorf was born Sept. 23, 1927, in Nyack, New York. He also served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He moved to Alaska in 1972. He commercially fished and lived in Anchorage, Valdez, Seward and Homer, retiring in 1994.
Mr. Reisdorf enjoyed canning, gardening, making home brew beer, cooking and sharing it with all his friends.
"Grumpy or Duffer, as he was known, was best known for his love of life, family and friends. He was a great seaman for most of his life. He was also retired from the Pile Bucks Union. He was well known for sharing with friends and neighbors whatever it was he happened to have extra of. John 'Grumpy' Reisdorf will be missed," his family said.
Mr. Reisdorf was preceded in death by his wife, Jesse Anna Reisdorf, and sons, Charles Thomas and Eric Curtis Reisdorf
He is survived by his son, Jeffrey A. Reisdorf of Westport, Wash.; daughter, Rebecca N. Patterson of Astoria, Ore.; grandchildren Katie and Brock Reisdorf, both of Eagle River, Erin Ramsey of Washington, Anna L. Oos and Curtis A. Reisdorf both of Everett, Wash., and Leonard Ray Haglund Jr. of Portland, Ore., and Nathon Oscar Haglund of Astoria, Ore.; one great-grandson; and three great-granddaughters.
Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
