Anchor Point gets ready for patriotic celebration

Happy Fourth of July to all. Independence Day is Saturday with lots of fun for the whole family, but the day is more than a chance for family and friends throughout the country to gather for barbecues and fireworks displays, it is an annual celebration to commemorate the courage and faith of our founding fathers in the pursuit of liberty.

Here is some Independence trivia: On the first U.S. flag, why were the stars displayed in a circle? (Find the answer at the end of this column.)

The Anchor Point Chamber has the schedule of Fourth of July events out in the community so don't forget to pick one up so you have all the events at hand. The parade will be at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Have a great weekend and be safe. Good luck on the water.

Anchor Point Chamber of Commerce

and Visitor Center

It's family fun time. Everyone is invited to join in all the Fourth of July events that are scheduled. Don't forget to buy your duck. Blue ducks are $1, pink ducks $3 and yellow ducks are $5. There is a first-, second- and third-place prize for each color of ducks.

The Fourth of July parade will begin at 1 p.m. Line up is at 12:30 p.m.. The duck race will follow the parade. The community picnic will follow the duck race. The chamber/visitor center will supply the hot dogs, chips and beverages, so please bring a side dish to share.

Also, there will be a chili cookoff and a dessert cook-off. Applications for both events can be picked up at the chamber office. Buttons are on sale for $2; the button needs to be present to win the grand prize.

The schedule of events for Saturday is in local businesses or one can picked up at the chamber office.

Anchor Point Senior Center

Tonight's dinner at the senior center will be fried chicken and all the fixings. Dinner is served at 6 p.m. Bingo starts at 7 p.m. every Friday. On July 18, the center will have a fabric sale from 9 a.m-4 p.m. The community breakfast will be from 9 a.m.-noon July 19.
