Grant encourages kids to get outside
The Kachemak Bay Research Reserve sincerely thanks the Homer Foundation's Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) for their generous grant to purchase fishing tackle for the new Fishing Rod Loaner Program. This grant, in partnership with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game-Sport Fish Division, will make fishing rods and tackle available for Homer youth under the age of 16 accompanied by a guardian with a fishing license.
The fishing gear may be checked out at the front desk of the Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitors Center. The tackle boxes and their contents are available especially for Homer youth and would not have been possible without the Homer Foundation YAC's support.
This program encourages Homer youth to get outside and explore the wealth of experiences available in our rich natural environment. Engaging children's minds and bodies in outdoor adventures such as sport fishing will foster a deeper appreciation for the wonders of Kachemak Bay and the ecosystems which support them and us.
Thank you for your continued support of hands-on programs and for helping the Research Reserve foster stewardship of Kachemak Bay.
Terry Thompson, manager
Kachemak Bay Research Reserve
