Annual 4th of July scholarship fund barbecue

Noon - 5 p.m.

Homer Elks Lodge

26th Annual American Legion July 4th children's carnival

Noon - 4 p.m.

American Legion, Mile 2 East End Road

Including a variety of fun, games and food. They will be offering barbecued food for a minimum fee. The Sons of the American Legion will be sponsoring a dunk tank. Come enjoy this environment of family fun.

Carnival tickets are 50 cents and $1.

Onlookers should be able to enjoy the race from various locations on the Spit. The skippers meet at 11 a.m., and if there is room for additional crew, potential crew should meet skippers at P-dock.

Celebrate Alaska's 50th with the '50s

The city of Homer invites the community to dust off your poodle skirts, bobby sox and white T-shirts and celebrate Alaska's 50th Anniversary of Statehood -- 1950s style. Enjoy free food -- including a pig roast and salmon, live music and dancing. Check out the 4th of July parade, and then come on by and join in Homer's community celebration.
