More great music, dance on its way
More dance and music are coming to Homer, thanks to foundation generosity. Homer Council on the Arts was awarded funds from the Western States Arts Federation, supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, for two performances this coming year. Sweet Plantain will perform Oct. 29, 2011, and Thodos Dance Chicago will perform April 14, 2012. Both groups will offer public workshops and classes.
Sweet Plantain is a string quartet blending western classical music with hip-hop, jazz improv and Latin rhythms. They educate and entertain with a sound that is contemporary, multicultural and very New York.
Thodos Dance Chicago is a contemporary dance company whose mission is to inspire expression through dance education, dance creation and dance performance. The performance has been hailed as athletic, beautifully powerful, vibrant and innovative.
HCOA is very excited to bring this quality of performance to our community and to offer classes and workshops to the public with these very talented artists. Thank you to WESTAF, NEA and all of our members and supporters who make these opportunities possible.
