Do you support the use of public funds to provide daily ferry service between villages on the south side of Kache-mak Bay and Homer?
Yes: 58 percent
No: 42 percent
(As of 1 p.m. Tuesday)
Comment:
This is an absurd pork project. There are presently myriad water taxis, on demand air service and a state ferry system providing economical transportation across the bay. There are not lucrative jobs to travel back and forth daily to and if there were should the U.S. taxpayer pay for people’s transportation because they won’t move to where the work is? The village tribes have funds to provide transportation if it was truly needed but won’t because they know they would have to subsidize it at a near 100 percent rate. There are plenty of private sector businesses that would provide daily service to Halibut Cove but the locals won’t allow access to private land and there are no roads. Pork, pure selfserving pork!
